Meet Your Downtown Guide: Richard Hooker

Richard is a pre-eminent expert on Las Vegas culture. He was formerly the Urban Arts Coordinator for the City of Las Vegas and worked directly on landmark projects including the Neon Museum, the 18b Arts District, the Cultural Corridor, the Las Vegas Scenic Byway, and the Las Vegas Book Festival.

 

    • Welcome dinner and mixer at Brasserie by EDO - an acclaimed French-Spanish bistro that is intimate yet lively.

    • Guided Tour of the Neon Boneyard at night – a unique opportunity to learn the history of Las Vegas gaming and entertainment through its preserved neon signs

    • Cocktails at downtown’s Circa Legacy Club; high atop the city, where the views are incredible.

    • Add-on: See a digitally remastered Wizard of Oz. on a 160,000 sq ft screen at the Sphere, the world’s largest spherical structure.

    • No show is too over-the-top for Las Vegas, and SGPS Showrig is the master producer of sets and experiences - from live concerts to movie sets. We’ll have an amazing behind-the-scenes tour of their props and how they create the magic.

    • Only one city in the world is home to authentic showgirls and we’ll meet one of the best - learning what the life of a showgirl is really like.

    • The Boring Tunnel is proof that Las Vegas is at the forefront of change. It’s a subway, but with electric cars tunneling through underground Las Vegas. We’ll experience the thrill of experiencing the future in public transportation.

    • Our downtown guide Richard Hooker always finds new treasures to explore downtown, and we’ll examine a variety of them on this walking around tour.

    • Zoltar, the all-knowing fortune-telling machine, appears in iconic locations world-wide. We’ll get an exclusive tour and see the hand-made precision behind these animatronic machines. Your wish may indeed be granted.

    • The Showgirl Museum is a private home filled to the brim with over 250 costumes from Strip productions, which is just a fraction of the 44,000 (!) costumes Grant Phillipi has accumulated over his 40 year career as a show boy. Originally a farm boy from Iowa, Grant would make Chelsea Handler blush.

    • Only one pen has been to the moon and the ‘space pen’ has been immortalized in history in the press and even on Seinfeld. We’ll meet the founder’s family and learn the fascinating history.

    • The 15,000 square foot underground home is an amazing highlight of the tour. Walk through the nondescript house above ground, go in the closet, and take the elevator down 100 feet. Complete with casita and swimming pool. Although not updated since its construction in the 70s, it has been meticulously maintained with its original furnishings, including a pink kitchen!

  • Three night stay in deluxe room at the beautiful Palms Resort, located within walking distance and adjacent to the Las Vegas strip.
